Sonya takes great pleasure in teaching traditional Classical piano from beginner to advanced level, with numerous past students achieving success and high results in examinations, competitions, year 12 music, year 12 music extension and University auditions.
Sonya has found it refreshing, introducing interested students to the idea of incorporating music technology into their practice routines, such as custom made orchestrated midi-file backing tracks for enjoyment. Some of these backing tracks have been created by Sonya herself, using the music software Logic Pro.
Performing with orchestrated backing tracks, brings the traditional classical piano student into the 21st century, enabling pianists of all levels, to experience the enjoyment of ensemble playing in all genres and experience performing in concerto style. This also assists the music student to fully immersing themselves in the stylistic character of the studied compositions, gaining a greater understanding of the musical style, enabling them to perform beyond the notes on the page but above all have fun. This in many ways has been instrumental in generating successful results and a broader understanding of musical styles.
